STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS

BRAIN CAMP at NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE

STEP-NUS Brain Camp is a week-long intensive neuroscience program that takes place at the National University of Singapore. The aim of the program is to expose high school students to neuroscience and psychology, as well as to multiple cultures. Students have the opportunity to experience Singaporean culture, learn about the cultures of countries such as Laos, China, Cambodia, Thailand and Japan, and attend lectures given by professors of neuroscience, psychology, biology, and general animal research from across Asia. The program terminates with a presentation of a research paper written by each individual country team.

This year the lectures included an introduction to the bio-chemistry of nerve impulses in the brain, neuroplasticity, animal research using marmosets, and the effects of intermittent fasting on the ageing brain.

The India team, comprising of 3 students from BIS - Aditi Marshan, Pranav Bajpai and Neil Nooreyezdan won first place for the presentation of the research paper, which was based on the neurobiology of migraines.

SUNBURST YOUTH CAMP, SINGAPORE

Ved Asudani, Asmita Gattamraju, Aria Panchal and Vir Toshniwal were selected from the IB to represent INDIA at the Singapore Youth Camp (SYC) with four more students - Rehan Chagla, Taera Singh, Shaina Pahuja and Yohann Poncha from Cathedral and John Connon School. SYC was held from 2nd December, 2018 to 8th December, 2018.

Ms. Azmin Vania escorted the students who spent one week sharing their culture with other students from countries such as China, Thailand, Mongolia, Philipines, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia. The students not only interacted with, but also spent time understanding cultural differences that united them in the same room when they shared it with students from other nationalities. Each individual student who represented our country worked meticulously, stayed up until the wee hours to ensure that their presentation was nothing short of the best. The result, therefore, was the first position for BEST STALL.

Over all, the experience was enriching, transforming and somewhat therapeutic. Striving to be part of the SYC Team, sure, has been a matter of pride for years and the victory in our pocket, was just the cherry on top.
